The Village Park Eco Home is a net zero-energy ready house.  It demonstrates how to build a high-performance, energy efficient, healthy home using building science.   Sustainable and recycled materials are included resulting in minimal impact on the environment.

Consumers and builders learned about the house through this website, social media including facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram, in a variety of print stories, newsletters, digital marketing, YouTube videos and open house tours.  Builders also learned about the project during special tours and seminars.

Supporters include: Department of Energy Challenge Home (now called Zero Energy Ready Home), Energy Star, GreenBuilt Texas, and the Dallas Builders Association.

The design and furnishings make it easy for the kitchen and living areas to adapt to changing family and activity needs.

One bedroom is specially designed to reflect the wish of Cassidy, a very imaginative nine-year-old Make-A-Wish® North Texas recipient.  Her wish: to be a zookeeper.  During the tours, $1,381.25 was donated benefiting Make-A-Wish® North Texas.

Project team:  Wayne Atkins of Sterling Brook Custom Homes is the builder.  Cherri Atkins, Atkins Design Group, created the house plan.  Chris Miles served as Senior Building Science advisor. Interior design and furnishings were by Barbara Gilbert, Barbara Gilbert Interiors and her design assistant, Amy Armstrong Guess.

Participation of the eight Presenting, 28 Product and 8 Furnishings Sponsors assured successful implementation of the project.
